In response to requests from several national grocery chains, Shat-R-Shield, manufacturer of the original plastic-coated, shatterproof fluorescent lamp, has developed a new line of shatterproof very high output (VHO) fluorescent lamps.
Shat-R-Shield will offer shatterproof VHO fluorescent lamps in three types: VHO/TSC, VHO/LT/TSC and VHO/LT/Jacketed.
VHO lamps operate at higher wattages, burn at higher temperatures and emit up to 2.5 times as much light as regular fluorescent lamps. Until now, protective-type VHO lamps have been inadequate at truly providing safety. The plastics used in the past were unable to withstand the high temperatures, especially at the cathode ends of a VHO lamp. The plastic became brittle, burned and cracked, leaving the protective covering inadequate to contain the glass, phosphors and mercury if the lamp was ever broken.
Shat-R-Shield's VHO/TSC and VHO/LT/TSC type lamps use a patented TSC (Teflon/Shat-R-Kote Combination) plastic coating process. They are safe and shatterproof, because this plastic combination can reliably withstand the extreme temperature emitted by a VHO fluorescent lamp.
VHO/TSC fluorescent lamps are designed to be used in open luminaires in ambient temperatures above 50°F. VHO/LT/TSC fluorescent lamps are designed to operate in low temperatures ranging from 0°F to 50°F, with their optimal output at temperatures near 32°F. This temperature range makes them ideal for refrigerated areas in grocery and convenient stores and outdoor lighting systems.
Shat-R-Shield's VHO/LT/Jacket lamps are encased in a plastic jacket for optimal burning conditions. The plastic jacket minimizes bulb cool down and allows the lamp to operate at temperatures from -20°F to 0°F. Typical applications include freezers and cold storage areas where temperatures are kept at or below zero.
Although higher light output is a benefit of VHO lamps, safety is the primary application of all Shat-R-Shield products. Shat-R-Shield lamps are coated or jacketed with only the highest quality plastics to ensure safety for consumers, employees and products. Shat-R-Shield lamps are safe for the full rated life of the lamp. With the addition of these new Shat-R-Shield VHO products, your VHO applications can be safe too.
